Infinity from Marvin – Fiberglass Replacement Windows

Let’s dive a little deeper into why the Infinity from Marvin series of fiberglass windows are great for the Dallas Fort Worth area.

When most people think of fiberglass, they think of boats, sports car bodies and surfboards. That’s the fiberglass mat manufacturing method. Layers of fiberglass fabic is laid down and impregnated with resin. This is tried an true method of manufacturing strong, long lasting products. But, that’s not the method used for the Infinity series of windows.

How Are Fiberglass Windows Made?

Infinity from Marvin fiberglass windows are made from a pultruded fiberglass called Ultrex, which is created using a process called pultrusion:

  1. Saturated – Raw fiberglass strands are saturated with resins.
  2. Pulled – The strands are pulled through a heated die, which determines the shape of the fiberglass.
  3. Cured – The pultrusions are cured.
  4. Finished – The pultrusions are given a finish.
  5. Cut – The pultrusions are cut to length for use in window frames.

This pultrusion process embeds long glass fibers into the fiberglass, making the material strong and durable. Glass fibers are made from a finely ground material of silica and zirconia, which is heated and melted to form hair-like filaments. Filaments are collected and bonded together to create strands.

Infinity from Marvin windows are made from Ultrex fiberglass because it has many advantages over other materials, including:

  1. Strength – Ultrex is eight times stronger than vinyl and three times stronger than wood-vinyl composites.
  2. Low Maintenance – Ultrex is virtually maintenance free.
  3. Thermal Stability – Ultrex expands 87% less than vinyl windows, so it’s more resistant to leaks and seal failures.
  4. Acrylic Finish – Ultrex has a proprietary acrylic finish that’s three times thicker than competitors and resists fading, scratching, and denting.
  5. Traditional Appearance – Designed to look like traditional wood windows, but without the maintenance. Choose Everwood to get wood grained finishes.

Are Fiberglass Windows Paintable?
First of all, Ultrex is triple-coated with extremely durable acrylic finish. This finish is available in 7 colors on the exterior and 5 colors for the interior. You are sure to find a finish that matches your home and will last a lifetime. In the event you decide on a different color scheme, fiberglass is repaintable with the proper products and preparation.

How Much do Fiberglass Windows Cost?
There really is no “average window cost” that applies to fiberglass. Windows are measured down to the 1/16th of an inch and custom ordered for the particular window opening. Window openings are usually not truely square which is why we don’t stock windows like the big box stores do (called stock sizes). Windows that are accurately measured seal more efficiently against air and water penetration. Stock sized windows need modifications to the opening in order to get a decent (not perfect) fit.

The Window Experts consultant will measure each window to be replaced, discuss the materials and glass features that will make your home beautiful and energy efficient.
