What Are The Specifications To Look For In Quality Replacement Windows in Irving?
There are 3 main components of great replacement windows Irving:
- The Frame Material
- The Glass Package
- The Installer
What Are The Popular Frame Materials In Modern Replacement Windows?
Starting with the frame, the choices are Vinyl, Aluminum, Fiberglass/Composite, and wood. Wood is very elegant and goes great with home styles like Craftsman and Victorian. But, unless they are meticulously maintained (sanded, painted or stained) over the years, wood rot can decay the wood and, of course, termites love moist wood! Wood often is also at the high end of the price range depending on the wood species chosen.
A great insulating material and long lasting window frame can be had at a more affordable price. I’m talking about vinyl. Its non-conductive. Vinyl made with Ti02 (titanium dioxide), like all the best quality vinyl windows, is made to resist the relentless attack of bright Texas sunlight. Vinyl windows will last 2 decades or longer but, once you choose the color, that’s it. They are not repaintable if you change your mind later. Anlin Windows and Doors is one of our more popular options.

Modern aluminum windows are not your grandfather’s aluminum! These frames are built to reduce heat transfer and conductivity by separating the interior and exterior window frames with a resin “thermal break”. Colors are hard anodized to look great for years to come. If you do change your mind later, they can be painted with proper prep work. Another plus for aluminum is the strength! Aluminum is a fine choice for large windows and commercial applications. We often specify Don Young Windows for our aluminum offering but, it’s not our exclusive aluminum offering.
At the top of the window “food chain” are the windows made from fiberglass and/or composites. These will normally come in as the highest price but, the extra 20 or 30 years life over wood and vinyl make these windows a more reasonable choice. Colors are applied with high end acrylic paint and separate color choices can be made inside and outside your Irving home. Infinity From Marvin is our favorite fiberglass brand.
With both aluminum and fiberglass window brands, you have options to have one material on the exterior of your home and real wood or an exquisite composite wood on the interior!
What Is The Popular Glass Package For Irving Texas?
A window would not be a window without glass, right? In the industry, we call this the IGU (insulating glass unit). Always 2 panes of glass and sometimes 3 panes in really cold climates.
Clear glass does very little to protect your home against damaging UV light. All our glass units have Low-E coatings. At the entry level, 2 coats of Low-E silver oxide is the minimum. We love Cardinal Glass LoE3 for its 3 coats of silver and a 66% natural light penetration. Your rooms won’t be too dark but your carpet and furnishings are protected from fade. If you’re looking for impact resistance and sound reduction, ask about our laminated and tempered glass options.
Design pressure is the rating for a windows ability to protect against strong North Texas winds and micro bursts. DP50 is a fairly standard offering and can withstand 50PSF (pounds per square foot) like those in a 150 to 170 mph wind storm.
All the information regarding a window’s performance can be found on the NFRC sticker applied on each new window.
