The City of Frisco, TX has experienced a huge building boom over the past few decades. Almost half of the homes have been built since 2010! But, you really can’t rely on age alone to determine if you need new replacement windows Frisco.

Looking back 10-20 years, the technology included in new replacement windows has undergone some massive improvements.

1. The Evolution of Glass Coatings (Low-E)

Just 18 or so years ago, Low-Emissivity (Low-E) coatings were very basic. They were only designed to reflect the infrared heat, which will marginally keep a house warmer in the winter or cooler in the summer.

Modern Low-E window coatings are spectrally selective with multi-layers of the silver oxide Low-E coatings. These microscopic, multi-layered formulas of metal oxides applied to the glass far outperform windows 10 years old and older.

Today’s coatings block up to 95% of UV rays. Older coatings made homes noticably darker while newer coatings clearly display their Visible Transmission numbers. Let in the natural light but block out the harmful UV rays and solar heat.

2. Gas Fills and “Warm Edge” Super Spacers

Dual-pane windows in 2000 were only filled with ordinary dry air or, as an upgrade, early configurations of Argon gas. These older insulating glass units suffered frequent seal failures because the metal spacers between the two panes of glass expanded and contracted significantly in extreme temperature changes, causing the insulating gas to leak out and moisture to fog up the window.

3. High-Performance Frame Materials

In 2000, your choices were pretty limited. Essentially wood framed (expensive, high-maintenance) or brittle standard vinyl and aluminum (without a thermal break). Frame engineering has since changed entirely. Modern vinyl frames include “sunscreen” (titanium oxide) in the vinyl formula to prevent warping, shrinking, and cracking. Aluminum window frames are now made with two frames (inner and outer) separated by a non conductive material. Wood finishes/coatings have improved and, fiberglass and composite windows were not generally available until about 2000. At that point in time they were limited and hard to find.

4. Higher Quality Manufacturing, Improved Tolerances, and “Soundproofing”

Now that most window manufacturers have automated, the efficiencies gained result in tight tolerances. The result is modern sashes lock into their frames with precision air-locks.

Because the seals are so airtight and the glass configurations are thicker and multi-layered, modern energy-efficient windows double as excellent acoustic barriers. Homeowners replacing 20-year-old windows often notice significantly quieter homes. A lot less street traffic and neighborhood noise.

The Bottom Line: Replacement Windows Frisco Saves Energy And Money

Modern replacement windows are about  30% to 50% more efficient than standard dual-pane windows made in 2000. This results in less strain on your HVAC system and a noticeable drop in monthly utility bills.
