What Is The Difference Between Replacement Windows And New Construction Windows?
Many customers call us and request a quote for “new windows”. But, there is a distinction between “new construction windows” and “replacement windows”. When a home is being built and the framing is exposed – no siding, brick, or stucco yet – new construction windows are installed. New construction windows have a nailing fin. Replacement windows will have a block frame.
One other type of window frame, which is intended for pre-built homes with stucco siding is the stucco flange style. Similar to the nail fin but on the outside to cover any damage to the stucco upon removal of the old windows.
If your home is already built, as most of our clients homes are, you want replacement windows with block frames.

When Should I Choose Replacement Windows Instead Of New Ones?
As noted above, If your home is built and already has windows installed, we will carefully remove your old windows and install new block framed replacement windows. If you have a stucco home, depending on the look you want, you may choose stucco flange windows.
Are Replacement Windows Cheaper Than New Construction?
Actually, the prices are pretty much the same. As far as new construction, the labor to install the windows is less due to being bare framing with no siding or drywall to interrupt the installation process.

Can You Install New Construction Windows In An Existing Home?
If you are shipped New Construction Windows for an existing home, the nail fins are trimmed off effectively making them block frame replacement windows.
Which Option Provides Better Energy Efficiency?
The difference between new vs. replacement windows as far as energy efficiency goes, it is the frame material and glass package chosen that makes the difference. Not the frame style.
